Expelling diplomats who are caught undermining a sovereign state is basic self-defense, not escalation. A neighbor that arms and shelters rebel coalitions, then plays innocent, forfeits any claim to normal relations. Dialogue and African Union mediation remain open, but subversion dressed as diplomacy deserves exactly the response it got.
Blaming foreign embassies is a convenient way to dodge responsibility for broken promises at home. A peace deal left half-implemented, with self-rule and representation still denied and troops never withdrawn, is what pushed seven armed groups into one alliance. Slamming diplomatic doors shut only guarantees the fighting spreads across the Horn.
