The Spin

A single front door to the federal government is the kind of common-sense fix Americans have been begging for since forever. No more bouncing between dozens of agency sites and duplicate forms just to handle one simple task — ask once, get an answer, move on with the day. Government should respect people's time, and finally there's a design built around the citizen instead of the bureaucracy.

Handing the entire federal government over to a chatbot built by the president's billionaire buddies is reckless showmanship, not reform. Language models hallucinate, and bad answers about visas, food stamps or tax deadlines mean denied benefits and real penalties for real families. Piling every agency's data into one glossy system also builds the juiciest hacking target ever assembled.

America.gov could become far more than a convenient digital front door. Centralizing passports, taxes, benefits and potentially voter registration creates an extraordinary surveillance hub, especially when its architects have already deployed tracking tools capable of recording clicks, entries and browsing behavior. Convenience is the bait used to corral Americans into being tracked by a centralized portal capable of watching their every move.
