Two massive meltdowns in barely two years is a pattern, not bad luck. Britain's airspace has zero slack, and when air traffic control stumbles, a quarter of a million passengers get stranded for days with rules on passenger care that were never built for chaos this big. Keep this up and connecting travelers will simply route through Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt instead.
The system issue got resolved and operations returned to normal, which is exactly what a resilient network looks like. Recovering an entire aviation network takes time because airlines and airports all have backlogs to clear, and that work is happening around the clock alongside them. An unreserved apology and constant updates for passengers show accountability, not failure.
