The Spin

Reform UK claims to champion free speech but bans journalists who dare to ask tough questions — that's not principle, that's cowardice. Barring reporters who broke stories on Farage's finances while waving the free speech banner exposes Reform's rhetoric as a shield against accountability, not a genuine commitment. A party this thin-skinned about scrutiny has no business lecturing anyone about open debate.

Press freedom doesn't mean guaranteed access to private party events, and barring a handful of journalists while credentialing over 1,000 others is hardly an assault on democracy. Reporters who function as partisan activists pursuing a predetermined narrative rather than genuine journalism shouldn't be surprised when a political organization exercises its right to decide who enters its own conference. Freedom of association is just as legitimate a democratic value as press freedom.
