Is this proof that North Sea drilling must be halted or is banning it flawed policy built on exaggerated climate fears?

The Spin

This year's summer in the U.K. broughtresulted in thousands of heat deaths, destroyed crops and raging fires — and approving new North Sea oil and gas fields like Rosebank and Jackdaw in the face of that devastation would be a flat-out betrayal of the public. The science is settled and the damage is real. No new oil and gas.

Blaming a hot summer on CO₂ ignores hard physics — the warming effect of carbon dioxide follows a logarithmic curve, meaning each additional unit of CO₂ traps less heat than the last, making runaway warming physically impossible. Rushing to ban North Sea drilling based on catastrophic projections that ignore this saturation effect is bad policy.

Metaculus Prediction

There's a 35% chance that there will be a heat wave that kills at least 1 million people in a single month before 2050, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
