France's 2027 presidential race is shaping up to be a chaotic split of the moderate vote, and the real danger is a Le Pen vs. Mélenchon runoff that shuts out the mainstream entirely. The debate made clear that neither the hard left nor the far right has a credible plan — Mélenchon wants to burn debt while Le Pen blames immigrants and EU contributions. France deserves better than a race to the extremes.
Le Pen walked into that MEDEF debate and did what centrists couldn't — she showed fiscal seriousness with a €125 billion savings plan and a debt-brake amendment, while her rivals bickered. Mélenchon's debt-cancellation scheme spooked the room, and the centrists got exposed for presiding over €1 trillion in new debt under Macron. Le Pen is the only candidate actually talking about putting France's finances in order.
