Biya's retreat to Switzerland is a national embarrassment. After four decades in power, Cameroon's president still looks abroad for the privacy, comfort and healthcare his own country cannot provide. If Cameroon lacks the medical infrastructure or setting suitable for its 93-year-old leader's recovery after nearly half a century of his rule, that indicts his legacy. Governing from Geneva is not stability, but a system that failed to build at home what its elite seeks abroad.
