Thirty kids born through IVF clinics in northern Cyprus may never know their true genetic origins, and that's a direct result of loose regulation in a territory where EU laws don't apply. DNA tests on 11 children revealed ancestry from Turkey and surrounding countries despite parents carefully selecting Western European donors — and the world's largest sperm bank, Cryos International, says it has no record of ever delivering sperm to Dogus clinic. This isn't a one-off mistake; fertility experts say the scale of it points to negligence or outright deception.
Lumping every IVF clinic in northern Cyprus together because of allegations tied to specific providers and a specific doctor is bad logic and bad for patients. Reputable clinics there source donor sperm exclusively from licensed international sperm banks, use electronic traceability systems, and follow rigorous chain-of-custody protocols at every stage. The right move is demanding documented safeguards from any individual clinic — not writing off an entire destination that nearly 25% of UK patients seeking treatment abroad already trust.
