Murder is not activism, and dressing it up as one doesn't make it so. The Thompson family deserves justice, and Mangione's guilty plea is a step toward getting it. Sentencing must reflect the full weight of this crime — a man was killed, and no grievance with the health care system justifies that.
Mangione accepted responsibility, yet the system is prosecuting him twice for the same act — that's a clear double jeopardy violation under New York law. Years of debilitating pain and a broken health care system pushed him to a breaking point that thousands of Americans recognize. The state charges must be dismissed; punishing the same conduct twice isn't justice, it's overkill.
