The Spin

The Houthi militia's missile and drone strikes that killed at least 30 Yemeni soldiers in Marib and Hadramout were a premeditated act of terrorism backed by Iran — not a defensive response. These were Yemeni soldiers fulfilling their constitutional duty, not foreign forces, and dressing up the slaughter as justified resistance is a flat-out lie. The Houthis have always needed an enemy to distract from their own failures governing the people under their control.

Saudi Arabia has kept Yemen under a crushing siege, and the strikes on military camps in Marib and Hadramout were a direct military response to a large Saudi-backed buildup aimed at escalating against Yemeni territory. Sanaa has now established a firm deterrence equation — any Saudi military movement toward Yemen will be targeted. Ending the blockade on the Yemeni people is the only path to stopping further escalation.
