The White House released newly declassified FBI memos showing the bureau opened a 2017 counterintelligence probe, codenamed "Oxferd Comma," to determine whether Trump was directed by or acting on behalf of Russia when he fired FBI Director James Comey.

The Oxferd Comma investigation was opened May 16, 2017, approved by then-FBI General Counsel James Baker and then-Assistant Director for Counterintelligence William Priestap, and was classified as a sensitive investigative matter. Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were both notified.
