Readmitting Diane Abbott to Labour makes a mockery of any serious commitment to fighting antisemitism. Abbott doubled down on her remarks — saying she had no regret — and a formal warning is nowhere near enough accountability for repeated offenses. The Jewish Leadership Council is right to demand answers on how this squares with Labour's so-called zero tolerance stance.
Abbott's reinstatement followed a rigorous independent process approved by Labour's own review board, and the party made clear the leadership played no role in the decision. Abbott completed antisemitism awareness training, apologized and received a formal warning — exactly what a fair disciplinary process should produce. Treating a trailblazing MP who has faced decades of racist abuse as a political liability rather than a person deserving due process is a serious failure of principle.
