Is this a massive violation or did users simply misunderstand what "sharing" means online?

The Spin

Anthropic dropped the ball hard on user privacy — one noindex tag would have kept Claude's shared chats off Google, but that never happened. API keys, Social Security numbers and personal resumes ended up publicly searchable, and this exact problem hit ChatGPT a year ago, so there's zero excuse for repeating it. Anyone who ever hit Share on a Claude chat needs to go delete those links right now.

The Claude story isn't a breach — no systems were hacked, and no accounts were compromised. Users clicked a Share button that creates a public webpage, and public webpages get indexed by search engines; that's just how the internet works. Google has already cleared its index, and the real takeaway is that "shareable" and "private" are not the same setting on any AI platform.
