Haiti's Gang Suppression Force Kills Three in Gunfight

Is this force a path to lasting security or a recipe for mass civilian harm?

The Spin

The Gang Suppression Force is the real deallegitimate: well-trained, well-armed and operating with an offensive mandate to take back Port-au-Prince from gangs that have turned the capital into a kill zone. Gangs control roads, ports and hospitals while recruiting children at gunpoint. Early operations are already dismantling gang infrastructure, and sustained international support is the only path to free elections and lasting security.

Haitian police and private contractors killed hundreds of people in six months, yet the gang member count stayed frozen at 3,000. The lethality isn't hitting gangs, but civilians, with nearly 275 of those killed having no gang ties whatsoever. Pouring more firepower into a force that can't distinguish fighters from bystanders is a recipe for mass civilian harm under the guise of anti-gang operations.
