The Spin

Italy is absolutely right to keep demanding justice for Aldo Moro's murder — granting citizenship to a convicted terrorist and then hiding behind constitutional technicalities is a moral failure, not a legal defense. Nicaragua cutting diplomatic ties only proves it has no interest in accountability. Sheltering someone sentenced to six life terms isn't sovereignty; it's complicity.

Nicaragua's constitution explicitly bans extraditing its own citizens, and no bilateral extradition treaty with Italy exists — so Rome's decades-long pressure campaign has no legal foundation to stand on. Tajani's remarks at a Madrid summit were inflammatory and unprovoked, and severing ties was a direct response to that aggression. Diplomatic relations require mutual respect, not public denunciations.
