Reform UK is shamelessly exploiting Ann Widdecombe's death for political gain, ignoring direct police requests not to speculate on a live murder investigation. Nigel Farage publicly theorized about premeditated, politically motivated killing before any evidence supported it, while a close friend of Widdecombe herself called it deeply disappointing. Reform is more interested in playing the victim than honoring a former colleague.
The people who questioned whether Widdecombe's killing was politically motivated were vindicated when counter-terrorism police took over the investigation on July 13. Shaming the public for asking legitimate questions about a suspect who allegedly traveled 250 miles to a famous politician's home was censorious and wrong. Reform MPs deserve the same right to grieve and raise security concerns as any other politicians.
