The Spin

Meta's CA$13B data center in Sturgeon County is a massive win for Alberta — 3,000 construction jobs, 300 permanent positions and up to 6% lower electricity bills for residents. The facility runs on 100% clean energy, uses zero water in its cooling system and pumps $60M into local roads and infrastructure. Alberta just became a serious global player in AI.

Massive data centers bring 24/7 noise, local heat and enormous energy demand that strains grids and props up fossil fuels — Big Tech's renewable pledges don't hold up under scrutiny. Data Center Alley in Virginia shows exactly where this road leads: coal and gas dependence deepening while communities bear the costs. Alberta deserves better than becoming the next sacrifice zone for Silicon Valley's AI ambitions.
