Dems Urge Maine Senate Nominee to Quit Over Assault Claim

The Spin

Graham Platner's campaign is in freefall after a named accuser detailed a sexual assault allegation to Politico, and Democratic leaders — from the DNC chair to Planned Parenthood Action Fund — are right to demand he step aside. Maine deserves a candidate with moral integrity, not one whose campaign has lurched from Nazi tattoo controversies to rape allegations. The deadline to withdraw is the second Monday in July, and the party must act.

Democrats knew exactly who Graham Platner was — the Nazi tattoo, the abuse allegations, the depraved online posts — and endorsed him anyway because he was winning. Ro Khanna literally said he believed Platner's accusers and backed him in the same breath. The party only found its conscience when the candidacy became a liability, proving the "believe women" standard gets ditched the moment political survival is on the line.
