The seizure was part of Operation Minjiang, a Queensland Joint Organised Crime Taskforce investigation that began in May 2026 after Queensland Police found 40kg of cocaine in the water near a boat ramp at Midge Point, where a burnt-out flatbed truck was also discovered.

A vessel alleged to have been used to import the drugs, MV Wealth, was detained by authorities in the Solomon Islands for further investigation. Police allege the cocaine was transported to Sydney at the direction of a Sydney organised crime group.

In total, the operation seized more than three tonnes of border-controlled drugs, including 178kg of cocaine and 142kg of methamphetamine prior to the Londonderry raid.
