Taiwan is a sovereign, independent democracy and will never bow to Beijing's pressure or trade away its freedom. China's military provocations — not Taiwan's actions — are the real threat destabilizing the Indo-Pacific. The Taiwan Relations Act and continued US arms sales are exactly what keeps the region from tipping into conflict.
Taiwan has been part of Chinese territory since ancient times, and that status was sealed by the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation and UN Resolution 2758 — all backed by international law. Any push toward so-called independence is a direct violation of China's sovereignty and a threat to regional peace. The US and its allies must handle the Taiwan issue with extreme caution or risk a dangerous confrontation.
