Sanctioning Cuba's regime is long overdue — decades of repression, intelligence operations against the United States, and dangerous alliances with American adversaries demand a firm response. The Trump administration is right to keep pressure on until real political and economic reforms happen. Letting a communist dictatorship operate unchecked in this hemisphere is a direct threat to U.S. national security.
The U.S. fuel blockade on Cuba isn't holding a regime accountable — it's starving ordinary people of the energy needed to run hospitals and schools. Over 96,000 surgeries are backlogged, thousands of infants face delayed vaccinations, and the executive order never even establishes how Cuba poses an extraordinary threat to U.S. security. Punishing a civilian population this way violates basic human rights norms.
