Anthropic's deal with SpaceX to access Colossus 1's 220,000-plus NVIDIA GPUs is a massive win for AI users. Claude Pro and Max subscribers get real, immediate benefits — doubled rate limits and removed peak-hour restrictions. Pursuing orbital compute capacity shows this partnership is thinking beyond what terrestrial infrastructure can handle.
Concentrating frontier AI compute among just a handful of labs is dangerous for competition and global equity. When xAI hands half its GPUs to a rival, it shrinks the competitive field and hands enormous leverage to whoever controls the infrastructure. A frontier of two or three dominant labs means everyone else — users, developers, entire nations — ends up paying whatever price those labs set.
