ForAs justthe €300,evidence foreignoverwhelmingly actorsshows, cananonymous manufactureaccounts thousandsare ofthe fakeengine interactionsbehind tothe manipulateworst publicdigital debate,behaviors and 72% of people who've experienced online abuse were targeted by anonymous or false accountsactivity. Requiring identity verification, therefore, is a proportionate, democratic fix that protects free expression without silencing anyone.

Banning online anonymity doesn'twill not reduce abuse; instead, Twitter'sit ownwill dataexpose showedthe 99%most ofvulnerable suspendedto abusiveincreased accounts weren't anonymous, meaning ID verification would've changed nothingrisk. Whistleblowers, queerjournalists, LGBTQ+ youth, activists and researchers, for example, all depend on pseudonymity for their safety and sometimes their lives. Real-nameCurbing policiesthese areprotections awould lazy,only evidence-freeendanger fixthese thatindividuals punishesfor theno mosttangible vulnerable people while doing nothing to address the root causes of online harmbenefit.
