Pakistan's demand for verifiable action against the TTP is the only reasonable baseline for any real peace — Kabul's refusal to acknowledge terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil makes diplomacy nearly impossible. China's mediation is a sincere effort, but talks in Urumqi can't succeed without tangible Afghan commitments. Pakistan has exhausted every diplomatic avenue and has every right to hold firm.

Pakistan launched airstrikes deep into Afghanistan and killed civilians, then called the resulting Afghan retaliation "unprovoked" — that's not a peace posture, that's aggression dressed up in diplomatic language. Exploratory talks in Urumqi are a start, but Pakistan's military-first approach undermines any credibility at the table. Real de-escalation requires Islamabad to stop strikes first, not set preconditions.
