ICE Funding Dispute Stalls DHS Budget Deal

ICE Funding Dispute Stalls DHS Budget Deal

Are Republicans fighting to maintain reckless ICE overreach or are Democrats holding federal workers hostage to shield illegal immigrants?

The Spin

Democrats are holding hundreds of thousands of federal workers' paychecks hostage just to protect illegal immigrants from deportation. That's not governance, that's extortion. Republicans already offered a clean path forward by stripping the disputed language and guaranteeing backpay, yet Democrats still refused and they continue to show they're willing to put illegal aliensmigrants above American workers.

ICECE's Enforcement and Removal Operations has proven itself too reckless and unaccountable to deserve a blank check from Congress. Republicans must stop blocking reforms and let a bill pass to keep TSA and most of the rest of DHS running and end the partial government shutdown. The answer to this problem is a grand bargain, not sending ICE to airports or letting the agency continue to get away with its violent ways.
