Slovenia's Golob Wins Narrow Vote, Coalition Talks Ahead

The Spin

Sunday's results are a victory for freedom and democracy in the face of election interference and foul play. Despite unprecedented attempts to unlawfully sway the thoughts and decision-making processes of the Slovenian people, voters have shown confidence in a forward-looking Slovenia, which coalition talks with other democratic parties will secure.

A narrow result with serious irregularities — including polling stations running out of ballots and illegal early voting sites — is not a clean mandate for anyone. With no clear winner and the prospect of an unstable government in the future, Slovenia must consider fresh elections to ensure that the country does not become politically paralyzed.
