US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer announced investigations under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 into 16 economies regarding structural excess capacity and production in manufacturing sectors. The investigations target China, the European Union, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan and India.

The investigations aim to determine whether acts, policies and practices of the targeted economies are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict US commerce. USTR will hold a public hearing starting May 5, 2026, with written comments due by April 15, 2026.

The move follows a Supreme Court ruling in February that struck down President Trump's tariffs imposed using emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
