A package of twelve child online safety bills is advancing in the House of Representatives with bipartisan support, requiring social media companies to implement identity verification measures to restrict children's access to online spaces. The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 28-24 along party lines to advance the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, which combines multiple bills focused on product design standards and age verification for adult content.

Republicans argued their safety bills are written differently than Senate versions to ensure they can survive court challenges on First Amendment grounds.

Democrats and technology safety groups criticized the House version of KOSA for omitting duty of care language that would legally require platforms to exercise reasonable care to prevent harms to minors including eating disorders, suicide and sexual exploitation. Republicans argued their safety bills are written differently than Senate versions to ensure they can survive court challenges on First Amendment grounds.
