The Spin

NHS maternity services are plagued by unacceptable racism where Asian women get stereotyped as "princesses" and Black women's pain gets dismissed as if they have "tough skin." Staff shortages force women to give birth in corridors with leaking roofs while hospitals cover up their deadly mistakes and falsify records to bereaved families. The system fails women and babies with devastating consequences through cruel comments, discrimination and a brazen lack of accountability. This ongoingdestructive cycle at the NHS must end.

The higher rates of stillbirths and infant mortality among Black and Asian mothers cited in the NHSinvestigation report stem from lifestyle choices, not structural racism. Pakistani heritage families experience higher infant mortality because of higher inter-family marriage patterns, creating higher risks of birth complications. Black women face more pregnancy difficulties because of above average obesity rates. Baroness Amos' report, which blames natural consequences of personal decisions on society, is absurd and irrational.

The Amos report confirms a familiar pattern — NHS trusts close ranks, redact notes and deny grieving parents the truth. Britain saw the same institutional self-protection in past maternity scandals and in the rush to pin the Chester deaths solely on Lucy Letby while ignoring systemic failures on the ward. Until transparency and a culture of openness replaces reputation management, inquiries will keep recycling blame without real accountability.
