The Spin

The so-called Mediterranean diet pushed by health authorities is a complete fabrication that bears no resemblance to what people in Mediterranean countries actually eat. Real Mediterranean cuisine includes abundant processed meats like prosciutto and salami, gelatinous cuts and offal, thoroughly cooked vegetables in rich sauces, and processed grains like semolina pasta — not the bland, restrictive, pseudo-vegan bowls of raw vegetables and salmon that American dietitians invented.

A stroke happens when blood flow to the brain is blocked or reduced, causing cell damage and lasting disability. More than 80% of strokes are preventable, and a heart-healthy diet plays a crucial role. Eating varied whole foods — vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats like olive oil — while limiting salt, sugar and unhealthy fats can lower stroke risk. Balanced nutrition, hydration and lifestyle changes support long-term brain health.

Metaculus Prediction

There's a 72% chance that ≥8% of U.S. adults will self-report following a vegetarian diet before 2036, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
