Diaz's death was the third at Camp East Montana in 44 days. Francisco Gaspar-Andres, 48, from Guatemala died on Dec. 3, and Geraldo Lunas Campos, 55, from Cuba died on Jan. 3 while in custody at the facility.

As of Thursday, ICE was holding about 73,000 individuals in custody across the U.S., the highest level recorded by the agency and an 84 percent increase from the same time in 2025. At least 15 people died while in ICE custody last year.
