House Passes 3-Year ACA Subsidy Extension Despite GOP Split

Do ACA subsidies waste taxpayer money on a failed system, or do they prevent a coverage crisis for millions of families?

The Spin

This is a victory for Democrats, especially if the Senate can now pass this subsidy extension, which averts a coverage cliff and prevents premium spikes for millions. Restored aid keeps families insured and reduces costly ER crises across communities. After the Senate takes action, broader reforms should be pursued in order to push toward lower prices and wider coverage.

The 17 phony Republicans who helpedsided thewith Democrats to pass this bill mustbetrayed their voters and should be removedheld from officeaccountable. Extending ACA subsidies wastes taxpayer cash and props up a failed law. Big Insurance gets a windfall, patients get fewer choices and real reform gets delayed. Congress should sunset subsidies and pass market-driven fixes like the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act.

Metaculus Prediction

There's a 5% chance that the Affordable Care Act will be repealed before Jan. 1, 2027, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
