This comes after a phone call lasting about an hour between them addressed sensitive issues, including drug trafficking, Venezuela, U.S.-Colombia bilateral relations as well as U.S. relations with Latin America.

Over the past few days, Colombia's leftist leader doubled down followed months of escalating tensions, during which Trump called Petro a sick man who likes making cocaine and suggested military operations in Colombia sounded good to him. Petro responded by threatening to take up arms to defend Colombia and deployed 30,000 troops to the Venezuelan border.
