Officer Adrian Gonzales ran straight toward danger at Robb Elementary, armed only with a handgun and no body armor, ready to stop the shooter or die trying. He actively responded to the threat, entered the building and held his position to prevent the gunman from escaping while other officers evacuated hundreds of students to safety.
Gonzales arrived at Robb Elementary more than a minute before the gunman entered and had crucial time to stop the massacre before it began. Despite being told the shooter's location and hearing gunshots 59 seconds before entry, he waited for backup instead of engaging, allowing the gunman to walk unchallenged into classrooms and slaughter 19 children and two teachers.
