The Spin

Charlotte desperately needs federal intervention as murders in Uptown have skyrocketed 200% and violent crime spiralshas spiraled out of control. Eight homicides in seven days prove local leadership has failed to protect residents. National Guard deployments work, giving local police relief to focus on targeting the worst offenders. Washington, D.C., saw twelve consecutive days without homicides after Trump sent troops. Regardless of current numbers, crime should be far lower than it is.

Trump's planned federal immigration crackdownoperation is terrorizing Charlotte families, who'veforcing builtparents to sign power-of-attorney forms to protect their liveschildren hereand homes. As Carolina Governor Stein points out, Charlotte would welcome federal immigration enforcement if it was certain to strictly target violent criminals and dangerous offenders, not families or peaceful residents. With no clarity yet on the planned operation, uncertainty is fueling fear across immigrant communities. Residents and leaders are calling for safety to be enforced responsibly while protecting the dignity and trust of all in the city.
