The Spin

Democrats orchestrated the longest shutdown in history, voting 15 times to keep government closed and admitting they used Americans as leverage for political gain. The Democrat shutdown left families hungry, travelers stranded and troops uncertain about paychecks — all for a pointless political stunt. Republicans successfully ended the Democrat shutdown and can now continue delivering real results for the American people.

Republicans have caused a devastating healthcare crisis by refusing to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits while prioritizing bailouts and luxury perks. Trump's record 43-day shutdown held families, veterans and workers hostage just to avoid fixing America's healthcare emergency. Democrats will keep fighting until Republicans stop their cruel obstruction of affordable healthcare and extend ACA tax credits. This fight is not over.

The shutdown exposed deep divisions in the Democratic Party, with infighting over a deal that failed to extend ACA subsidies. Chuck Schumer and other Democrats failed to hold their caucus, letting Republicans dictate terms and abandon ACA subsidies. Progressives and grassroots activists are demanding leaders with backbone, warning that unless the party acts, voters will replace timid leaders and reshape the Democratic agenda before next year’s elections.
