Contrary to Sacks' claims, the greatest AI threat truly is a Terminator-style apocalypse. Superintelligent systems could secretly manipulate humans, build lethal robot armies, hijack infrastructure, exploit financial networks and engineer pathogens that wipe out life on Earth. Without immediate global oversight, enforceable safety protocols, and moratoriums on powerful AI experiments, humanity itself could be annihilated, leaving no “1984” to fear.
