The Spin

The government shutdown is a crying shame for America. Democrat bad-faith negotiating threatens both U.S. prosperity and the countless essential government programs that everyday Americans rely on. If the Democrats really want to fix healthcarehealth care, they should first allow the government to reopen, and abandon their radical demands in order to work cooperatively with the administration.

Accountability for this government shutdown, and all the harm that will accompany it, rests solely with the Trump administration. Whereas the Democrats are open and eager to engage in productive talks to settle the healthcarehealth care crisis, the Republicans are nowhere to be seen. Instead of negotiating likein adultsgood faith, the administration has chosen to stall the government altogether.

As Democrats and Republicans trade blame for the ongoing crisis, they ignore the hard truth: this dysfunction is the product of their shared failure, rooted in years of partisan posturing and political brinkmanship. Budgetary standoffs have become the norm, eroding vital institutions, shaking public confidence and putting petty politics above the needs of everyday Americans. This cycle of mismanagement must end — now.
