This was an open-and-shut case, during which prosecutors meticulously documented 17 trips to scope out Trump's golf course and presented DNA evidence on the rifle and a written confession. The defendant's actions — hiding in bushes for hours with a loaded weapon — speak louder than his desperate courtroom theatrics.
This was a case of prosecutorial overreach against someone who didn't harm anyone. Routh's rifle malfunctioned repeatedly, the scope was held together with tape and glue and he clearly lacked the capability to be a threat. The government manufactured an assassination case from what amounts to trespassing with a broken weapon.
