Labor’s weak climate target abandons science and sells out future generations to appease fossil fuel interests. While climate experts demanded at least a 75% reduction to align Australia with global 1.5°C warming targets, Labor has chosen the bare minimum to protect their coal and gas donors. The Australian Greens will continue to hold the government accountable and advocate for effective climate policies.

Labor’s latest announcement shows that the government is living in fantasy land concerning its climate targets. The new policies fail when examined for their cost and credibility, and would be impossible to achieve by 2035. The Coalition will fight to protect hard-working Australian families and businesses from this madness, who are already suffering from Labor’s dysfunctional energy policy.

Metaculus Prediction

Australia will have no coal-fired power plants in its National Electricity Market by Nov. 2039, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
