The junction lies just beyond the 1949 Armstice Agreement Line, denoting Israel's official borders, and connects to other Israeli settlements in occupied areas of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Israeli media reported that the gunmen came from the nearby villages of Al-Qubeiba and Qatanna.
