The Spin

The Crown's harsh sentencing demands are completely disproportionate for what was essentially a peaceful protest. While violent criminals get slaps on the wrist and are released hours after charges, the prosecution wants seven to eight years for mischief charges against people who were advocating for their Charter rights. This looks like political vengeance rather than actual justice.

These sentences reflect the extraordinary harm caused by an unprecedented crime that paralyzed Ottawa for weeks. The convoy wasn't just peaceful protest but sustained criminality that cost millions in policing, caused lasting psychological damage to residents, and went well beyond legitimate demonstration. The Crown isn't punishing political beliefs but criminal actions that crossed clear legal lines.
