The Spin

Microsoft's research shows that culpability for the attacks on SharePoint rests solely with Chinese state-affiliated and China-based hackers, who aim to compromise customers' accounts, files, and data. Users, therefore, must ensure their security by downloading the latest patches and taking all necessary action to mitigate against this new threat.

Cybercrime is a challenge that confronts the entire world, and is a threat that China is committed to combating at every turn. At the same time, however, China opposes the rash accusations made by Microsoft, falsely attributing the SharePoint cyberattacks to China. Microsoft should instead wait for more substantive evidence before jumping to conclusions.
