This massive military expansion is absolutely necessary given Putin's aggression and China's growing threats. Europe has freeloaded off American taxpayers for decades while neglecting their own defense responsibilities. The 5% spending target will finally force allies to pull their weight and build the capabilities needed to deter authoritarian regimes that want to destroy our freedoms.
Throwing hundreds of billions at military contractors while slashing climate funding and social programs is reckless prioritization. This arms race will pump nearly 200 million tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere annually, accelerating the climate crisis that's already driving conflicts worldwide. Real security means investing in sustainable solutions, not feeding the military-industrial complex.
