Bird Flu Detected In Batch Of Raw Milk Sold In California

California has reported 29 positive H5N1 cases, with all but one case occurring in dairy workers, while 402 California dairy herds have tested positive for bird flu since March.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture will increase testing frequency to twice per week at Raw Farm's retail locations following this detection.
Raw Farm previously faced contamination issues, including an E. coli outbreak in February and a salmonella outbreak in October 2023 that affected 165 people.
Raw milk consumption has gained support from prominent figures who advocate for consumer choice and natural food options. The movement has grown significantly, leading several states to legalize raw milk products, with supporters arguing against what they view as excessive regulation of natural dairy products.
