Republican South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds introduced legislation on Thursday to eliminate the Department of Education.
Rounds has said that the legislation would "eliminate" the department and redistribute all critical federal programs to other agencies.The “Returning Education to Our States Act” is Rounds’ most recent effort to end the department, with the senator saying that he has been pursuing the goal “for years”
Rounds said that it is time to end the “bureaucratic department” continuing on to say that “Local school boards and state Departments of Education know best what their students need, not unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C."Rounds has said that the legislation would "eliminate" the department and redistribute all critical federal programs to other agencies.
