• US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated veteran prosecutor Pam Bondi as his new attorney general following Matt Gaetz's withdrawal.

• Bondi, Florida's former attorney general, has vast experience in law enforcement. She was an ardent Trump supporter during the 2016 presidential campaign, served on his legal team during his first Senate impeachment hearing, and headed the think tank America First Policy Institute.

• Trump revealed his choice in a tweet on his Truth Social platform Thursday evening, writing, "I have known Pam for many year—she is smart and tough and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!"
