The Spin

Teixeira took an oath to defend the US and its military secrets, which are vital for US national security and the physical safety of personnel serving overseas. Teixeira violated that oath almost daily for a span of a year, committing one of the most serious breaches of the Espionage Act in American history. Teixeira was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his actions, sending a stern warning to other potential leakers.

Teixeira's actions stemmed not from malice but from a desire to connect with friends he had made online due to his autism. The media have neglected all these facts, effectively working with the federal government to portray him not as a member of the "far-right." While prosecutors didn't have to, the court of public opinion could have been more sympathetic if it weren't for the biased reporting of mainstream outlets.
