The Facts

  • American voters went to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in statewide and local elections, in addition to the presidential election between Democratic Vice Pres. Kamala Harris and Republican former Pres. Donald Trump. It's expected that seven battleground states will determine the winner of the Electoral College.

  • If Harris wins, she'll become the first woman, first Black woman, and first person of South Asian descent to become president. Trump, meanwhile, has garnered the support of tens of millions of Americans despite facing criminal charges in several cases across the country and having been convicted of 34 felony counts in New York.

  • If this election follows the same path as the 2020 election, the first states will be called around 7 p.m. EST. Kentucky and Vermont were called first by the Associated Press in 2020, but it took four days until it was determined Joe Biden had won. Many states don't start counting mail-in ballots until Election Day, postponing their final counts.

The Spin

While the case against Trump should be disqualifying, voting in favor of Harris also means better policy when it comes to the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and a multitude of other issues. Harris has promised to legislate from a position of consensus, including the voices of conservatives and Republicans, while Trump is a threat to the rule of law and the health of capitalism.

It's easy to vote Trump over Harris when you compare their track records, as Trump's presidency brought a robust economy, while Harris has been part of an administration that created rampant inflation. The Southern border was more restricted under Trump, but Harris' administration let illegals enter unfettered. The mainstream media may side with his opponents in framing him in a negative light, but in the end Trump was and will be a strong president.
