Gupta, 52, was arrested in the Czech Republic in June and is awaiting extradition to the US, where he faces charges of murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
The indictment alleges that an unnamed Indian government employee, described as a "senior field officer" with intelligence responsibilities, directed the assassination plot from India.
The alleged plot was uncovered when Gupta unknowingly contacted a US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) informant to hire a hitman, who was actually an undercover DEA agent.
The Indian government has consistently given space to anti-India extremists, which is at the heart of the issue. These separatist leaders pose a threat to India's national security and sovereignty. The allegations need to be thoroughly investigated, but it's also important to address the broader context of extremism and its international connections.
